IPG Photonics Opens New Kilowatt Laser Factory

IPG Photonics Corporation, the recognized leader in high power fiber lasers, announced that its subsidiary, IPG Laser GmbH, opened a new factory in Burbach, Germany dedicated to manufacturing its unique multi-kilowatt fiber lasers. The 20,000 sq. foot state-of-the art clean room facility substantially increases production capacity for IPG's high power fiber lasers, enabling high volume industrial production.
Since IPG's introduction of kilowatt-size fiber lasers in 2001, demand for the revolutionary diode-pumped fiber laser has grown rapidly. Many industries now employ IPG's commercial lasers for various materials processing applications, including automobile, shipbuilding, pipeline laying, construction and aerospace. With the addition of the new electronic grade manufacturing facility, IPG can meet ramping customer demand for its kilowatt lasers.
"With our new factory in Burbach, IPG can now produce more than thirty kilowatt-class lasers per month. It will be sufficient to fill multiple orders in 2005 for such lasers from our growing backlog" stated CEO, Dr. Valentin P. Gapontsev. "Now we are building a similar facility in Massachusetts to meet demand for 2006. Over the last three years, IPG has built strategic, fully self-sufficient capacities for unique fiber, fiber-optic and optoelectronic components including a factory for mass production of what we believe are the highest efficiency and brightness, and the most reliable pump laser diodes in production today. These investments give our customers added assurance that IPG can meet their high volume requirements for reliable and high quality fiber lasers. The over 3,000 [different kinds of ] fiber lasers which IPG will deploy this year serve as the best reference that IPG is not only promising technologically advanced commercial products but also delivering on those promises", he added.
World-wide, IPG has approximately 280,000 sq. feet of manufacturing space.
