    What does IPG Photonics do?

IPG Photonics develops and manufactures high-performance fiber lasers and amplifiers for diverse applications in numerous markets. Founded in 1990, IPG Photonics pioneered the development and commercialization of optical fiber-based lasers, which are a new generation of lasers that combine the advantages of semiconductor diodes with the high amplification and precise beam qualities of specialty optical fibers. Because these lasers deliver superior performance, reliability and usability at a lower total cost of ownership compared with conventional lasers, fiber lasers are displacing traditional lasers in many current applications and enabling new applications for lasers.

IPG manufactures a broad line of fiber lasers that are used in numerous markets for very diverse applications. The principal market is materials processing. Other markets include communications, medical and advanced. IPG's products are used to make the products or provide the services that touch your life in many different ways each day, from razor blades that our products weld, to cars you drive made with robotic laser welding, to the computers containing semiconductors and disk drives that our lasers are used to manufacture, to the aircraft that our products weld, to the magazine you read printed with the help of our lasers, to the broadband service delivered to your home. Our lasers are also used in skin rejuvenation, such as wrinkle removal.

    What products does IPG offer?

We design and manufacture a broad range of high-performance optical fiber-based lasers and amplifiers. We also make packaged diodes, direct diode laser systems and communications systems that utilize our optical fiber-based products. Many of our products are designed to be used as general purpose energy or light sources, making them useful in diverse applications and markets. Our laser products include low (1 to 99 watts), medium (100 to 999 watts) and high (1,000 watts and above) output power lasers from 0.5 to 2 microns in wavelength. These lasers may be either continuous wave or may be modulated at different rates. We offer several different types of lasers, which are defined by the type of gain medium they use. These are ytterbium, erbium, thulium and Raman. We also sell fiber pigtailed packaged diodes and fiber coupled direct diode laser systems that use semiconductor diodes rather than optical fibers as their gain medium. In addition, we offer high-energy pulsed lasers, multi-wavelength lasers, tunable lasers, single-polarization and single frequency lasers, as well as other versions of our products. Our amplifier products range from milliwatts up to 1,500 watts of output power from 1 to 2 microns in wavelength. We offer erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, commonly called EDFAs, Raman amplifiers and integrated communications systems that incorporate our amplifiers.
